Recent high school sports
I have been pretty busy with some long-term projects recently, so I have not had much time to post new work. Here are some links to galleries of some high school sports I have been shooting between projects.

Fallbrook High School wrestling
I recently covered a wrestling meet at Fallbrook High School. Rancho Bernardo nearly shut out the Warriors, but I still made a few images I really like. Enjoy.
Please see my FHS Wrestling gallery to see more images from the meet.

Great Oak girls soccer beats Fallbrook
My high school winter sports coverage began Monday evening with a girls soccer match between Great Oak and Fallbrook. Just a handful of frames into the game, I grabbed this shot of Great Oak goalkeeper Michelle Craft making a leaping save. The Wolfpack went on to win 2-0.

Cool clouds
I’m totally a sucker for cool clouds. I noticed this unusual formation to the west as I pulled into my neighborhood Sunday evening. Most of the best light had disappeared by the time I retrieved my camera, but I still really like the resulting photo.

Kitchen and family room composite
I had some down time on Saturday, so I shot another composite panorama of my kitchen and family room. This image consists of 13 vertical frames stitched together in Photoshop.
See if you can find my dog, Leo.

Chaparral wins CIF title
I hung out in the rain last night to cover the CIF Southern Section Inland Division championship football game at Vista Murrieta High School. The score was low — Chaparral won 13-7 — but the emotions were high.
Please visit my football gallery to see many more images.

New park opening
This afternoon I covered the opening of a new public park in Fallbrook. I’ve never seen kids so excited about a playground; the county officials had a very difficult time containing the kids until the ribbon cutting was completed.
A tall, spinning cage was a particular hit. The children had so much fun simultaneously piling inside [...]
Tree planting at Fallbrook High School
On Saturday, I covered a group of student volunteers as they planted several young trees on campus. This type of event can be difficult to cover since the subjects spend most of the time with their faces to the ground and the scenes are cluttered. Still, I was pleased with the results.

Broncos win semifinal game against Norco
This Friday evening, I covered Vista Murrieta High School’s 34-33 comeback win against Norco to advance to the CIF Southern Section Inland Division championship game.
I froze my toes off, but I still had a good time.

Temecula Valley
I awoke early Monday morning to photograph the Temecula Valley at sunrise for an upcoming story in our newspaper. While it’s often a pain to get out of bed so early, I’m always rewarded by beautiful scenery and a peaceful setting.
The above image is one of my favorites from the take. It was made looking [...]
Photo composite
I started playing around with photo composites this evening. This particular image is a grid of about 20 images taken in my living room, just after we set up our Christmas tree.
I hope to do more of these soon.

Thanksgiving vacation
I’ve been enjoying some time off with family this week. My camera, however, has still been busy snapping away capturing images of the people around me.
As the sun sank below the horizon on Thanksgiving day, I paraded my in-laws in front of the lens and made some fun portraits. This one, of my wife, her [...]
Downtown Sacramento
My Uncle-in-law and I roamed downtown Sacramento Wednesday night, making photos of the architecture. It was a great opportunity to put my new tripod to good use.

H1N1 flu vaccination clinic
On Saturday, I spent part of the morning photographing VaxAmerica’s swine flu vaccination clinic at Temecula Valley High School. I spent the whole time at the pediatric booths.
The kids made great faces as they were poked. I like this picture in particular because the mother’s expression matches her daughter’s.

"Unity in the Community" parade
The city of Lake Elsinore hosted its annual Unity in the Community parade Saturday in the middle of downtown. As always, I was on scene making pictures.
The cast of characters was pretty similar to previous years, but I did find a few uniquely dressed dogs. I love that.
To see a few more pictures, visit my [...]
MVHS girls tennis falls to Palm Desert
I’ve been so busy (which, for a photographer, is a good thing) that I forgot post a picture from the Murrieta Valley High School girls tennis team’s semifinal match against Palm Desert.
Unfortunately MVHS lost 14-4, but they seemed to have a good attitude about it.

Vista Murrieta beats Santiago 38-17
I spent this chilly evening photographing the Vista Murrieta High School football team’s 38-17 win over Santiago in the first round of CIF Southern Section Inland Division playoffs.
I made the above photo before the game as the players entered the stadium.

Holiday food photography
Whew! I recently finished up two weeks of photographing various restaurant dishes for the upcoming holiday issue of the Village Lifestyle magazine. It was a lot of work, but also a ton of fun. I wouldn’t mind being a full-time food photographer.
Due to time constraints, I didn’t have the opportunity to sample most of the [...]
San Diego skyline
I accompanied my wife to her writing class in downtown San Diego this evening. While she was busy, I drove to Shelter Island and make some pictures of the skyline from across the bay.
This photo in particular was the result of a 40-second exposure.

New tripod
I picked up a new tripod this weekend and decided to try it out while shooting some self portraits. It’s the first professional-grade tripod I’ve owned, so I’m excited about the new possibilities it will provide.
I also bought a small cable release, which is a huge improvement over using the shutter delay timer.
Hopefully, I’ll have [...]
Pumas beat Wolfpack 35-21
This week, I covered the football matchup between Chaparral High School and Great Oak. I hoped for a close game, but Chaparral dominated the first half with five, unanswered touchdowns. Great Oak pulled off a few scoring drives in the second half, but fell short.
The play was dramatic and made for some good pictures. To [...]
Dutch-American Heritage Day in Temecula
This week has been terribly busy. Along with many other Saturday community activities, I photographed the Temecula Sister City Association’s Dutch-American Heritage Day festivities at the Dutch Mill Trading Company.
It wasn’t long before I ran into two Dutch women in traditional clothing. I followed them around for a bit as they sold tulip bouquets from [...]
