Yesterday, I photographed Fallbrook High School water polo player Jacob Pril set the CIF San Diego Section single-season record for individual goals scored. I captured his third goal of the game to tie the record at 201 and then another a few minutes later to break it. Pril scored six goals in all by the end of the game to raise the bar to 204 goals.
Another photographer and I stuck around after the game to capture a ceremony honoring Pril. As it ended, the team rushed forward to shove their coach into the pool. We were positioned between the coach and the pool, so I looked up just in time to step out of the way. The other shooter was pushed to the very edge of the deck and, just as I thought for sure he and his cameras were going in, a quick-thinking player pulled him back out of the way.
I guess the lesson is always be aware of your surroundings. And don’t chimp!
