Vigil for Amber Dubois

I am beginning to feel like all I photograph is tragedy. Last night, my editor sent me to cover another candlelight vigil, this time in honor of missing Escondido teen Amber Dubois. Officials discovered her body a few days ago near the Pala Indian Reservation, over a year after she disappeared.

Like the vigil for Chelsea King, the mood among the crowd was somber. However, I did detect a feeling of frustration and perhaps even anger. As he addressed the crowd, Amber’s father, Maurice Dubois, criticized the ACLU for blocking stricter sex offense laws in California.

I found this vigil a little easier on my emotions, partly because I was able to chat with fellow photographer Andrew Foulk before and after. I was glad to have his company.

Please view more of the vigil photos in my Amber Dubois gallery. Andrew’s work can be found on his blog.
